What you’re actually buying
Most online figure drawing resources are static: a PDF of poses, a YouTube video of someone else drawing, or a generic timer. Zeet Studio Sketch flips that script for this specific volume. For $9, you are not just buying a video file; you are buying access to a structured, themed live session that mimics the intensity of a traditional life drawing class. The core deliverable is the Zoom or YouTube link to the live event, which allows you to join in real-time if you can make the 1 PM China / 7 AM France slot. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
But the real value for most buyers is the MP4 recording file and the model video provided after the event. This means you don’t have to be online at a specific hour to get the reference. You can scrub through the model’s movements at your own pace, which is crucial for capturing the specific, angular tension of the Berserk character Griffith. The listing explicitly notes this is an alternative for artists who cannot access the WeChat platform, making it a more accessible entry point for the international community. The session is hosted by @emilyamiao, a storyboard artist at Disney Feature Animation and a Sheridan graduate. This is significant because you aren’t just watching a model pose; you are watching a professional break down how to approach the figure in a narrative context. The demo portion gives you a second layer of learning: seeing how a working artist interprets the same reference you’re using. It’s a rare combination of raw reference and applied technique in a single $9 package. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
Why it’s on our radar
This specific volume stands out because it is part of the ANIMATION THEMES 2024/6-7 bundle, signaling a curated series rather than a one-off random pose. The specificity of the theme—Berserk’s Griffith—appeals to a niche but dedicated subset of the fantasy and dark-fantasy art community who struggle to find dynamic, character-specific references that aren’t just generic “muscular man” poses. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
The inclusion of a high-profile demo artist like Emily adds a layer of credibility that generic pose packs lack. You are essentially paying for a masterclass-lite experience. The price point is low enough to be an impulse buy, but the content is dense enough to justify the cost if you are actively trying to improve your figure rendering skills. It’s a smart pick for artists who want to see how a professional handles the transition from a live model to a finished sketch. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
What actually matters
Before you click View on Gumroad, check your timezone. The live event is scheduled for July 20, 2024, at 1 PM China time. If you are in the US or Europe, you may need to rely heavily on the recording rather than the live interaction. The listing clarifies that the recording is provided after the live session, so don’t expect it to be available immediately upon purchase.
Verify that you have the software to play the MP4 model video. While most modern systems handle MP4s fine, if you are using a very old tablet or a specific drawing tablet with limited OS support, ensure the file format is compatible with your viewer. The “model video” is distinct from the “recording file”; the model video is likely a clean reference of the pose, while the recording includes the demo and chat. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
Consider the artistic value of the demo artist’s approach. If you are a beginner, the demo might be too fast or technical. If you are intermediate, it’s likely to be exactly the kind of “next step” insight you need. The fact that Emily is working on her own comic suggests her style might lean towards narrative clarity and expression, which is a specific skill set you might want to emulate. Mid-check
If you are looking to sharpen your figure skills with a specific character theme and a professional demo, this is a low-risk entry point. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
FAQ
Is this just a static pose pack? No. It includes a live event link and a recording of the demo. The value is in the dynamic interaction and the professional breakdown, not just a static image. You get the model video as well, which allows for frame-by-frame study. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
Can I use this for commercial work? The listing does not explicitly state a commercial license. For a $9 educational resource, it is typically intended for personal practice and study. If you plan to use the reference for a commercial illustration, you should check the specific terms on the Gumroad listing or contact the seller to clarify usage rights.
What if I miss the live time? You can still purchase the product to get the recording file and the model video. The listing is designed to be an alternative for those who cannot attend live, ensuring you get the core reference material regardless of your schedule. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
Bottom line
If you are an artist who wants to practice figure drawing with a specific, high-quality reference and see how a professional storyboard artist approaches it, Zeet Online Life Drawing Vol.186 is a strong value. The $9 price gets you a live session, a recording, and a model video—a complete package that usually costs significantly more in traditional workshops. (【BERSERK - Griffith】Zeet Online)
