What you’re actually buying
You are paying one dollar for a complete, standalone narrative experience. Liatris is not a snippet or a prologue; it is a finished 57-page comic that you can read in one or two sittings. For the price of a single episode of a streaming show, you get a full story arc that balances the emotional weight of a first crush with the kinetic energy of robot combat. This is a rare combination in indie digital comics: the pacing of a short story with the visual payoff of an action sequence.
The format is straightforward: a 193 MB PDF. This is a substantial file size for a 57-page document, which suggests high-resolution artwork and detailed paneling rather than compressed web strips. You are buying a digital-first experience designed for reading on a tablet or laptop, where you can zoom into the art without losing quality. The story is explicitly labeled as “Girls Love” (f/f romance), so the emotional core is the relationship dynamic between the two leads, with the sci-fi elements serving as the backdrop and the catalyst for their interactions. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
The title page promises “fighting robots,” but the description clarifies the priority: “But mostly that first one.” This is a romance comic that happens to take place in a sci-fi setting, not a hard sci-fi action comic with a romance subplot. If you are looking for a story where the emotional stakes are as high as the physical ones, this is the right pick. The inclusion of cartoon violence means the action is stylized and accessible, not gritty or realistic, keeping the tone aligned with the romantic focus. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
Why it’s on our radar
This offer stands out because it undercuts the typical price floor for indie comics. Most digital comics on Gumroad range from $5 to $15, so a $1 price point for a 57-page, high-resolution PDF is an aggressive value proposition that lowers the barrier to entry for new readers. It is an easy “yes” if you are curious about the artist’s style or the specific niche of GL sci-fi romance. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
The specificity of the listing is also a plus. The seller clearly distinguishes the digital PDF from the physical copy available on their Storenvy shop, so you know exactly what you are getting. The “cartoon violence” content note is helpful for setting expectations, ensuring that readers who prefer non-violent or purely slice-of-life stories can make an informed decision before purchasing. What actually matters
Before you buy, consider your reading device. A 193 MB PDF is manageable on most modern tablets and laptops, but it may be slow to load on older phones or devices with limited storage. If you are a heavy mobile reader, check your device’s compatibility with large PDF files. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
Also, note that this is a single-issue comic. If you are looking for an ongoing series with regular updates, this is a standalone work. The story is complete, so you won’t be left on a cliffhanger, but you also won’t have a subscription-like reason to return to the shop for the next chapter. The value here is in the completeness of the single narrative arc. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
Finally, the art style is a key factor. Since the file size is high, the artwork is likely detailed. If you are a fan of clean, expressive line work with dynamic action poses, this is likely to appeal to you. If you prefer minimalist or sketchy styles, the high resolution might not be the aesthetic you are looking for. (Liatris (Digital PDF))
